Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) PLC, established in January 2004, is the only specialized housing finance institution in the Maldives. HDFC is a privatized company with International Shareholders represented by International Finance Corporation (IFC of World Bank Group), Asian Development Bank and HDFC Investments Ltd. of India, jointly holding 51% of shares.

HDFC has a vacancy for the right candidate who can provide support to the company in the capacity of a Senior Legal Officer.

Job Title:  Senior Legal Officer

Job Description

  • Work closely with the Retained Legal Counsel and Company Secretary to provide legal advice and support to the operations in a timely manner.
  • Draft and strengthen agreements, contracts, and other legal documents to protect the company.
  • Represent the Company in Courts during the Litigation process.
  • Identify and mitigate legal risks and raise key risks and issues to the Management.
  • Provide input draft papers required for the board and committees.
  • Provide support to the development of strategy.
  • Providing advice to all areas of the operation.
  • Monitor and ensure business processes are compliant with legal and statutory requirements of the regulators and stakeholders.
  • Assist on matters related to the recovery process including meeting with Customers, drafting, and filing of cases at relevant courts in the Maldives.
  • Assist the company in secretarial matters.
  • Work on enhancing legal competence throughout the organization and regularly appraise management of any new developments in the legal framework of the country.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelors of Degree in Law (LLB.)-Level 07
  • Minimum 02 years of work experience in the field of law.
  • Strong knowledge of contract, labor, and land law.
  • Knowledge of Sharia Law will be an added advantage.
  • Licensed to practice law in the Maldives.
  • Thorough understanding of court procedures and relevant laws of the Maldives, particularly in relation to land law, debt collection, civil litigation, and special emphasis on mortgage.
  • Strong developed negotiations and persuading skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and investigative techniques.
  • Display a good level of planning, organization and prioritizing of work to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Dhivehi and English.
  • Persistent professional and tactful in approach.

Salary
