Climate Change Adaptation Project (CCAP)

Request for Expressions of Interest: Coral Component Coordinator

The Government of the Republic of Maldives through the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MEE) is implementing Climate Change Adaptation Project (CCAP) administered by the World Bank, and intends to apply part of the proceeds of this project to payments under the contract for the services of Coral Component Coordinator. The Ministry of Environment and Energy did not receive sufficient response for the subjected services (Ref No.: (IUL) 438/438/2015/83) and has decided to re-invite interested eligible individuals to submit their Expressions of Interest (EoI) to provide the Services.

The objective of this assignment is for ensuring preparation and implementation of all aspects of Coral Reef Monitoring Component of the CCA Project in co-ordination with other CCA Components, relevant government agencies and private stakeholders.

Key qualifications of the individuals who apply for the position are:

-  Degree in marine biology and reef ecology with a strong knowledge/focus on the marine and coastal eco-systems or equivalent;

-  Training in related field will be an added advantage.

-  Minimum three (3) years of work experience in the field.

-  Have at least two (2) years of experience in donor funded projects.

-  Good theoretical and practical knowledge of marine and coastal eco-systems in Maldives;

-  Technical knowledge and expertise in leading research work on coral monitoring systems.

-  Knowledge of issues surrounding environmental sustainability and climate change adaptation  in Maldives;

-  Must be result oriented and proactive. Ability to manage targeted indicators;

-  Knowledge and understanding of technical, commercial and legal aspects of World Bank- financed projects will be an added advantage.

-  Knowledge and skill in using software packages applied in coastal eco-system projects.

-  Strong communication skills in presenting, discussing and resolving difficult issues. Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

In addition to the above the successful candidate must be willing to work for extended periods without direct supervision and will be expected to travel routinely to islands.

Interested individuals must provide their CV with information demonstrating that they are qualified to perform the services (description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills, etc.) covering the Key Qualifications listed above.

A candidate will be selected in accordance with the procedures set out in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits and Grants by World Bank Borrowers dated January 2011.

Successful candidate will be paid an all inclusive monthly fee of MVR 25,000 to 30,000 depending on qualification and experience. The individual for this position will be hired, for a period of Thirty-six (36) months on fulltime basis and may be extended for a further period, based on need and performance.
