Recruitment of National Consultant for Mainstreaming Biodiversity into Policies, Plans and Strategies of Private Sector of the Maldives

Cancellation and re-announcement due to inadequate response to the announcement (IUL)438-ECAS/438/2015/21

Ministry of Environment and Energy has recently revised the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) of the Maldives in accordance with the Aichi Biodiversity Targets 2011-2020 of the Convention on Biological Diversity. The targets of NBSAP, in addition to conservation, constitute targets on mainstreaming biodiversity into policies, plans and strategies of private sector. Additionally, target 4 of the Aichi Target is on the Sustainable Production and Consumption to ensure impacts of use of natural resources stays within safe ecological limits. While Target 1 is on creating awareness on the values of biodiversity, Target 6 and 7 are on Sustainable Fisheries and Agriculture respectively. Additionally, Target 8 is about reducing pollution to a non-detrimental level to the ecosystem.

Private sector plays a pivotal role in achieving these targets. They are one of the major users of the natural resources and contribute to many environment related issues such as pollution, water scarcity, climate change, biodiversity loss and ecosystem services. To manage and address these factors there is a need to mainstream biodiversity and related environmental issues into the policies and plans of the private sector.

In this regard, Ministry of Environment and Energy is seeking Consultancy service to analyse the current policies and plans of private sector and to conduct a stakeholder workshop.

Outline of the main tasks for the consultancy includes, but is not limited to.:

(i) A detailed report on the current status of biodiversity and ecosystem services included in the policies, plans and strategies of private sector,

(ii) Conducting a workshop on Biodiversity Mainstreaming for the private sector
