Site Survey and Feasibility Study for an 80kW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System and 10kW Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT)

1. Invitation for Bids
Faafu Atoll Education Centre (FAEC) invites qualified renewable energy consultants, engineering firms, educational institutions, and energy service providers to submit proposals for conducting a comprehensive site survey and feasibility study for the installation of an 80kW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System and a 10kW Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) at the school premises.
The study shall assess the technical, environmental, structural, educational, and operational feasibility of implementing a hybrid renewable energy system while actively engaging students throughout the process.
2. Background
Faafu Atoll Education Centre is one of the largest educational institutions in Faafu Atoll, serving more than 570 students and employing 89 staff members. The school is committed to promoting environmental sustainability, renewable energy adoption, and practical STEM education.
The proposed renewable energy project aims to:
- Reduce electricity consumption from conventional energy sources.
- Promote sustainable energy practices.
- Improve energy security and resilience.
- Create hands-on learning opportunities for students.

Prior to implementation, a detailed site survey and feasibility study are required to determine the suitability of the proposed system.
3. Project Objectives
The objectives of this consultancy are to:
- Assess the feasibility of installing an 80kW Solar PV System.
- Assess the feasibility of installing a 10kW Vertical Axis Wind Turbine.
- Evaluate available land and roof spaces for renewable energy infrastructure.
- Assess solar and wind resource potential.
- Determine structural suitability of buildings and proposed installation areas.
- Assess electrical infrastructure and grid connection requirements.
- Estimate potential energy generation and environmental benefits.
- Develop preliminary system layouts and recommendations.
- Build renewable energy knowledge and practical skills among students through active participation.
4. Scope of Work
The selected contractor shall undertake the following activities:
A. Preliminary Assessment
- Review existing electricity consumption data.
- Review available infrastructure and site conditions.
- Conduct stakeholder consultations with school management and staff.
- Identify potential locations for solar and wind installations.

B. Solar PV Site Survey

The contractor shall:

5. Student Engagement and Capacity Building
A key component of this consultancy is student participation.
The selected contractor shall work directly with students throughout the feasibility study process to provide practical learning experiences in renewable energy and sustainability.
