Age limit for Pediatric Consultation

It is important to harmonize the healthcare provision across all the healthcare facilities, hence the Ministry of Health has set forth the upper age limit for consultation and treatment by the pediatrician. As a general rule, the set forth upper age limit for providing consultation and treatment by pediatrician is the age below 16 years. This should be practiced as a general rule and this doesn’t hinder the pediatricians from providing care for patients above the age of 16 years, within the scope of practice, competency and code of conduct.

Doctors specialized in other specialty and sub specialty areas may provide care for patients under the age of 16 within the scope of practice, competency and code of conduct.

Therefore, we urge all the health facilities to adhere to this circular until further revision is made.
