Data Science Professionals Programme 2022

It is our pleasure to announce the Maldives Monetary Authority Data Science Professionals Programme, is open for candidates who are interested to pursue a career in Data Science. Candidates selected for the programme will follow a comprehensive training plan to develop competencies in this field and will be eligible for the opportunity to study in a Master’s Degree programme in Data Science.

Eligibility Criteria: *           Bachelor’s degree in one of the following disciplines:

- Computer Science

- Mathematics

- Statistics

- Economics

- Banking

- Accounting

 

* Priority will be given to candidates with a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or Statistics

* Those with Master’s or higher degrees are not eligible to apply for this programme

Benefits:

- For the selected candidates, MMA will provide a monthly allowance of MVR 20,800 for the duration of the programme.

Conditions:

- Selected candidates are required to report to the MMA on a full-time basis for the duration of the programme starting from 08th May 2022.

- Upon completion of the programme, candidates are required to complete a 3-year service bond to MMA.

-  For CGPA calculation, all modules studied during the course duration will be considered unless and otherwise the transcript states that modules have been exempted.

 

Annex 2: Programme Structure

The Data Science Professionals Programme will be carried out as follows:

1. Introduction to Programming Language and Data Science – 2 weeks

This component of the programme is designed to provide candidates with a basic understanding of Python and SQL for data analysis. Candidates will explore datasets, using the data analysis tools in Python to create summaries and generate visualizations and will learn the fundamentals of database management and organization.

2. Data Analytics Professional Certificate – 3 months

Candidates will be complete a certification course in Data Analytics, which will enable them to gain an immersive understanding of the practices and processes used by a junior or associate data analyst in their day-to-day job. By the end of the course, candidates will be able to:

  • Understand how to clean and organize data for analysis, and complete analysis and calculations using commonly used programmes
  • Visualize and present data findings in dashboards, presentations and commonly used visualization platforms

3. Data Analytics Workshop – 1-2 weeks

This workshop will equip candidates with the knowledge on how to retrieve and manage large datasets generated in financial institutions, learn query techniques, machine learning, artificial intelligence and visual Influencing. The candidates will also explore case studies using real datasets.

4. Internship Programme – 2-3 months

 

An internship programme will be provided to all candidates at a central bank or at a financial institution. Candidates will learn how to collect, organise, clean, interpret and produce reports across a range of data sets as outlined by the host organisation. This will help them to portray the data in such a way that it helps answer a question or provide insights into what decisions can be made based on the findings.
